Privacy Policy
Last updated
This policy explains what information this site collects and what happens to it.
What I collect
- Analytics. I use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful. The next section explains what it collects and how it starts out for you.
- Email signups. If you sign up for the 30-Day Fiber Ramp or the newsletter, your email address is stored by beehiiv, the email service I use, along with which signup form you used.
- Server logs. The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard technical logs such as IP addresses and browser details to keep the site running and secure.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics tells me which pages you view, the page you came from, roughly where you are (country and city, worked out from your IP address, which Google Analytics doesn’t store), your device, browser and screen size, how long you stay, how far you scroll and which links you click. For affiliate links it also records which link it was, which kind of affiliate program it belongs to (a brand’s own, Amazon or an affiliate network), which page it was on and where on the page. It doesn’t tell me who you are, and I never send it your name or email address.
When analytics cookies are allowed, Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ plus an ID) so it can tell one visit from another.
Here’s how it starts out, before you choose anything:
- In most places, analytics cookies are on. Advertising cookies, the use of your data for ads and ad personalization are off.
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, everything starts off, analytics cookies included. Once the site has a consent banner, it will ask you. Until then, they stay off.
- If your browser sends Global Privacy Control (GPC), this site doesn’t load Google Analytics at all, wherever you are.
When analytics cookies are off, Google Analytics sets no cookies, but Google still receives each page you view and each event, affiliate clicks included, with the page address, the page you came from and basic browser details. Nothing in it links one page or visit to the next: no cookie and no ID. Google calls this advanced consent mode.
Ads
The site doesn’t show ads yet, and advertising cookies are off for everyone. If that changes, an ad partner may use cookies to show and measure ads, and this policy and the site’s consent options will be updated first.
Affiliate links
When you click an affiliate link, the store or brand you visit may set its own cookies to track a purchase. Their privacy policies apply on their sites.
What I don’t do
I don’t sell your personal information, and I never share your email address with brands.
Your choices
- Turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser (some browsers send it for you) and this site doesn’t load Google Analytics at all.
- You can stop Google Analytics on every site with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
- You can unsubscribe from emails at any time with the link in every email.
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
- Depending on where you live, including some US states, you may have the right to access or delete your information. Ask through the contact page.
Children
This site isn’t aimed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect their information.
